“I developed varicose veins steadily from my late thirties. After many years of discussions and deliberations over any surgery, my husband suggested I see a Consultant to ascertain what the prognosis would be and the surgery to be undertaken, if any. I admit I was very nervous, but upon meeting Mr Dominic Dodd for my first consultation he put me completely at ease and explained all aspects of the procedures he could undertake in regard to laser treatment. A second appointment was made at the meeting, and I attended within a couple of weeks to have laser surgery on both my legs. I was apprehensive before the procedure took place, but, he explained all the time the surgery was being done which was with complete professionalism and reassurance. Another appointment was arranged for around six weeks and I had sclerotherapy, this also was done very quickly and thoroughly. I have now been discharged, but he confirmed he would be available if I had any concerns or wished to see him again. “Before the procedure I was rather anxious, as I had had two previous operations on my varicose veins which were both invasive and painful. I found the procedure less invasive and much less painful. Wasn't time consuming and I was very impressed it was done with local anaesthetic. Only needed ibuprofen for pain relief and to take the swelling down. So far the procedure seems to have worked, but will have more information on my follow up appointments. “I lived with a badly varicosed vein for many years with no apparent trouble. However, 2 years ago I had phlebitis in my calf area which was painful. This cleared but reoccurred earlier this year and enough was enough so I sought help. Informed that the NHS route was likely to involve around 9 months of waiting I asked what was the alternative. I was directed to Thornbury Annexe for a consultation with Mr Dominic Dodd who immediately put me at ease and dispelled any fears I had. To say the least the experience was very satisfying as right from the start of the process I was treated by all involved with respect and pleasantness and given sufficient information to make informed decisions. Here is a hospital experience where the patient feels well cared for with their best interests paramount. Within 2 weeks everything was arranged and the procedure was carried out with the minimum of fuss and in a relaxed atmosphere. Somewhat painful over the next 7-10 days and unsightly but of course I had been pre-warned and felt comfortable in the knowledge that all would work out well. My leg is now free of pain and the nagging ache I had before. After 5 weeks a follow up consultation left me feeling satisfied with my progress. Throughout the medical procedures the accompanying nurses were fantastic. I had further treatment on longstanding thread veins 2 weeks later and am once again due to jettison, after 1 week, my support stockings!”
